Se min 3 funksjon Pris Action artikler for more. October 23, 2012 12 24 PM. 11.oktober 2012 1 37 PM. A long time ago, technical analysis was put in the same bucket as astrology, palm reading and fortune cookies no one actually thought there was any merit to it. Anyone who used it was considered foolish Fast forward to today and you would be considered a fool not to be using it. Technical analysis, like price action trading, now dominates the industry Most traders consider the technicals their trading religion and rely heavily on it to make confident choices. Due to its popularity, traders have made it a self-fulfilling prophecy So much so that even those who trade primarily off of fundamental or economic data, must still fall back to raw price charts if they re going to make sound trading decisions. If you re a passionate, aspiring trader, and truly want to attune your skills to become a master of the charts one way or another, you will find yourself studying basic candle stick charts It is unavoidable. Don t neglect this vital skill for technical analysis or you will be left behind in this cut throat industry. As a make money from home driven retail trader, some of the best strategies at your disposal are derived, and mastered from a good understanding of naked forex charts. In this comprehensive guide, I would like to present a detailed walk-through with a wide coverage of the whole methodology of trading with candle sticks alone. What is Price Action Trading. It is a very hot topic of discussion in the Forex industry Many seek out knowledge to learn this valuable i nsight into understanding the market and for good reason, because it works. To put it simply, it is the analytical study of price movement It is widely considered a compulsory learning step for traders because it is the life blood, soul, and backbone of technical analysis. Most charts used for trading are graphical representations of price movement vs time price on the y axis, and time on the x axis. Think of reading plain charts as the language of the market Once you learn to the read the charts and develop the crucial skill of translating the markets footprint, it will better put you in a position to transform you into a very confident trader. After a trader learns this skill, they will often report that they look at the market from a whole new perspective and they don t know how they were ever able to survive trading without it. As a technical, or even a quantitative analyst, it s your task to look at current price behavior and compare it with past behavior The comparison of what s happe ning now vs the history of price behavior can arm you with the knowledge needed to accurately forecast future price movements this is quantitative analysis 101.This approach works because the same patterns occur repeatedly and tend to produce the same reaction over and over again By learning these patterns we gain the statistical edge we need in this game, especially when combined with basic chart analysis. Your edge as a price action trader boils down to how good you are at finding these reoccurring patterns, and recognizing the conditions they form under. These patterns can provide a day-versus-night difference in helping you forecast future price movement with a high degree of accuracy which gives you the opportunity to position yourself ahead of the moves Think of it like an early bird warning. Traders can enjoy the skill of reading, understanding, and projecting future price movements without relying on black box-esque indicators which draw the attention of so many new traders If you go back to the basics and learn to read the charts your success as a trader will grow. Price action trading is the study of price is the study of historical price movements Traders who learn how to read a naked chart can exploit reoccurring price patterns for a profit All technical strategies can benefit from a good understanding of the chart itself, and it works on all markets. The Psychology of Candlesticks. Did you ever consider becoming a psychologist one day Well, in this business you will need to use psychology effectively in order to succeed. Firstly, you ve got the constant task of psycho-analyzing yourself to quarantine any self-destructive behaviors but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Not many traders realize this, but when you look at a price chart, you re actually peering deep into the psychology of the market itself. Well, a candlestick or bar is a visual representation of the collective thoughts of all market participants A candlestick shows you the mood, emotions, and co nflicts of everybody involved in the market during a given period. This concept may elude a newbie trader who may view the market perhaps as a technical or mathematical puzzle but with increased exposure, traders begin to realize that the financial markets are actually giant psychological battlefields. The humble candlestick reflects everyone s thoughts and expectations of future price movement. Because the market follows a herd mentality , it allows for the same or similar situations to occur over and over again The psychology of the crowd will generally drive price to repeat the same outcome as it has in the past under the repeated circumstances. To illustrate this example, consider this scenario price rallies into a known resistance level, the herd knows this is a likely turning point on the chart and they begin to sell Price action trading is self-fulfilling. The more of the crowd that sells, the more intense the bears become, which will further attract more sellers and so on This kind of market behavior is likely to leave behind a bearish reversal candle, a pattern manifested from the psychology of the herd. By becoming the savvy chart psychologist , you ve learned to recognize this bearish reversal pattern repeating over and over, and know to expect future lower prices to develop as more of the crowd follows the herd , and continues to join in the selling. Traders may say that the news, big banks, hedge funds or governments are responsible for moving the market but if you think about it it s really crowd psychology that is the core driver of price movement You don t want to swim against the tide or you will drown, so your job as a chart reader is to anticipate the crowd s response and flow with it. Understanding herd psychology can put you into the right mind-set needed to overcome the challenges and exploit the opportunities presented on the chart. Psychology is the core driver behind price movement and the candlesticks are the visual reflection of everyone s collecti ve thoughts about future price movement The natural herd mentality of the market participants creates repeated scenarios, leaving behind compelling chart evidence in the price movements, which you can use to forecast where price is likely to move next with a high degree of accuracy. Why All Traders Benefit From the Mastery of Reading Price Charts. The common trader is prone to the shiny new object syndrome They flock to the latest and greatest indicator that promises to do all the thinking for them, or to exploit some unknown secret to the markets. Most newbies innocently get caught up in these indicator campaigns, which are designed mostly by internet marketers looking to get rich quick. The indicators are usually very crude and don t offer consistent results or insight into the markets so that you can make consistent long term returns. This is why most traders become fed up with indicators and eventually make the smart choice to cut out the middle man by taking steps to learning to read n aked price charts and develop real skills that lead to a path of true success. Some traders may use other tools or data to help with their decisions, but raw chart analysis will always be boss. It is important to understand that all technical trading systems and indicators, are generated using delayed data and only serve you second hand and potentially misleading information. Learning to read and understand price action directly from the charts helps you understand the logic of the market in real time and build a true understanding of why you re taking a trade in the first place elevating your confidence as a trader. Many indicators lack solid logical rationale, which is why it s hard for traders to get behind them They re like the mysterious black box , you don t truly understand what s going on inside and just blindly follow the outputs which is why we don t tend to stick with them long term. Most people will also abandon stressful news trading strategies , because they are volatile and u npredictable whereas technical trading is based on identifiable patterns It encourages the mantra, trade what you see, not what you believe. This is a well-received ideology, as it helps remove your personal beliefs about where price might be heading, and helps you focus on what the market is telling you instead The charts don t lie, no matter what trading strategy you use price is always going to be at the core, so you re always going to better off by embracing it. In a forever changing market, a raw chart based trading strategy will make you adapt to the many conditions the market may experience Despite what tools, indicators or data you use to trade the market, price action trading will always be the real king at the end of the day You will always benefit in some way by learning how interpret charts directly, it promotes a trade what you see, not what you think mindset, which works well because at the end of the day price has the ultimate say. Working With Different Market Conditions. O ne of the real skills you need as a trader, is the ability to work with most market conditions. Granted, not all market environments can be traded safely, but at least the chart will communicate that message to you. Markets are generally doing 1 of 3 things Trending, ranging, or consolidating. I am going to usher you in via the keep things simple mantra, providing an insight into how you can trade these conditions pain free, via a no-fuss plain price chart. Trending Markets. Trending markets are considered the prime money making conditions, because they are moving markets, and price movement potential profit. Trends are estimated to only occur 30 of the time so while they are in motion, you ve got to know how to take advantage of them. I continuously keep coming across this question How can I determine the trend. Let me clear this up for you right now Please, remember these key points, burn them into your mind. A trending market is a market that is making higher highs higher lows bullish , or l ower highs and lower lows bearish It s as simple as that, that s how you find a trend. Real trends are established on swing trading time frames 4 hour and above Don t use low time frames to go trend hunting you may find micro intra-day trends, but they often don t align well with the bigger picture providing low potential for return on investment. Sometimes there just isn t a trend at all. Check out my article on trading without indicators to get more of an idea about price action trading with swing points in trending markets For now, let s keep things simple by looking at the diagrams below Finding trends should not be more complicated than this. A bullish trend higher highs and higher lows. A bearish trend lower highs and lower lows. When you see the trending footprint broken for example the market stops making higher lows, or lower highs, then the trend momentum has probably died out, and you can expect some consolidation or ranging markets to follow. The golden rule of trading is to buy l ow and sell high However, during trending conditions, many traders do the opposite, buying high and selling low. Remember this quote Buy the dips, and sell the rallies This is a good way to remember how to position yourself into a trend correctly, and avoid the chance of being taken out by corrections. It s a very common saying meaning you look for selling opportunities when the market is rising in a bearish downtrend, or watch for buying opportunities when a market is falling in a bullish uptrend. Sometimes, it s important to go back to the basics and identify what a trend really is A trend is just a stair-stepping market, not a stack of exotic indicators Remember the core trend rules from this lesson for identifying real trends. The main issue with poor entry for traders is they can t properly identify a trend, and if they do they trade them out of position Keep things simple, a trend is just a succession of higher highs higher lows, or lower highs and lower lows Remember the golden rule for trend positioning, buy the dips, sell the rallies to avoid being wiped out by corrections. Ranging Markets. Ranging are pretty straight forward They are often called a sideways market because their neutral nature makes them appear to drift to the right, horizontally. There are two containment lines that act as the range structure To put it simply, price bounces from range structure high to low, giving us price action traders an opportunity to make some money. A ranging market performs a tennis match pattern, where buyers and sellers just keep knocking price back and forth between the invisible boundaries support resistance levels. This will generally continue until the range structure is broken out of, and trending conditions start to organize It s important to remember that range boundaries are often overshot , giving the illusion a breakout is occurring This can be very deceptive, and it does trap a lot of traders who positioned into the breakout. You can see how these kind of fake ou ts can give off the wrong impression Don t try to trade range breakouts directly, especially if you re new to the charts. The best buying and selling opportunities occur at the range boundaries, in the form of reversal signals Watch for candlestick reversal signals at these points to see if the tennis match is going to continue. Ranging markets are simple market structures, where buyers and sellers throw price back and forth between two structure levels Avoid trading signals mid-range, and also avoid the temptation to trade range breakouts, they do fail a lot Target compelling reversal signals at the range structure levels. Consolidation Patterns. There are periods where the market doesn t have any clear directional movement and congests to create consolidation Some consolidation periods are just too hostile and volatile to trade and should be avoided. Others consolidation periods do form more uniform price structures that can act like an early warning sign that a violent breakout is about to occur These are called price squeeze patterns sometimes referred to as wedges, or triangles by price action traders. The idea is not try trade bounces at the structure edges, but rather wait for a clear breakout outside the structure. The important thing to know with these patterns is that you need to wait for a candle to decisively close outside the pattern before a breakout is confirmed. Generally speaking, when you get a convincing close outside the squeeze structures, a decent move will follow You must be very cautious about being the aggressive trade, looking to trade breakouts as they happen , because these consolidation patterns are notorious for fake outs. As you can see above, the aggressive breakout trader can easily get trapped as the market gives off the illusion that a breakout is occurring Getting caught in a fake out can be embarrassing It may motivate you to negatively evaluate yourself, and kick off all kinds of self-destructive trading responses, like revenge trading. I t s best not to trade these patterns in an aggressive manner, if you do choose to do so just account for the extra risk of a fake out in your risk management plan. When the market consolidates, it has no directional pressure Trading in consolidation is like flying a kite in a lightning storm However, some consolidation periods do form organised structures which you can use to catch breakoutsmon Candlestick Signals. A price action trader is generally also known as a candlestick trader because candlestick charts are the chart of choice for many Traders will use the candlesticks to read the footsteps of price via the candlesticks, and use them to identify reoccurring patterns known to produce a likely outcome. Most technical patterns are in the form of a specific candlestick anatomies When the candlestick closes in a certain way it can signal the trader of a pending move In the section below I am going to give a brief overview of some of the candlestick patterns we use here to forecast price movements. Reversal Candlesticks. The classic pin bar was first noticed by trader Martin Pring It s a reversal pattern that has a characteristic shape of a pin. It s generally referred to as a bar because it was discovered on a bar chart, and the name has just stuck with it over the years Technically, it should be called a pin candle but no one likes change. Long upper or lower wick. Small wick at opposite end. Very narrow ranged body. Body is located at one end of the candle range. The Rejection Candle. This price action signal is my main reversal trade signal, simply because it is the most common, and most lucrative reoccurring pattern. The long upper or lower tail displays rejection from an area on a chart, and the more aggressive bullish or bearish body shows more authority by the bears or bulls. Rejection candles tend to have a much better response and follow through than classic pin bars. They work extremely well with basic technical analysis. Long upper or lower wick to display rejection of higher or lower prices. Little to no wick protruding from candle close price. A strong bearish or bullish body. Bullish body located at top portion of candle range, or bearish body located a bottom portion of candle range. Larger in range than the surrounding candles. The Outside Candle. The outside candle is a self-descriptive pattern, it s a candle that has a range which extends outside the previous candle s range. It does tell an interesting story Generally how these guys form is when a breakout turns into a fake out, followed by a massive reversal. Firstly, the high, or low of the previous candle is broken giving the impression a breakout is occurring. Then the market fakes out , creating a breakout trap reverse scenario The market sling shots in the opposite direction and closes outside the opposite end of the previous candle s range creating a powerful reversal signal. An outside candle is a two candle setup. Must have a higher high and lower low price than previous candle. Close price must be outside previous candle s range. Little to no wick out of the closing price end of the candle body. These are the common reoccurring candlestick patterns that indicate an upcoming reversal Although they may work as individual trade signals, when you combine these price action reversal patterns with basic technical chart analysis you really enhance your chances of success. Breakout Catalysts. Some candlestick patterns we use are not so much signals, but rather an early bird warning , or catalyst for an upcoming breakout. Breakout trading can be very difficult for new traders to learn, due to the fact many breakouts turn into fakeouts, trapping newbies into bad positions. To become good at spotting worthy breakouts you need to be well-versed in market analysis, and also know how to time your breakouts to avoid getting caught in money traps These are topics are too lengthy to cover here, but are fully covered in the price action trading course if you re interested in learning more. In this s egment, I am going to briefly introduce some of the basic catalysts we use in our breakout trading. The Inside Candle. Candle high and low price must be within the previous candle s high and low price range. Chained inside candles can form, they must follow the same rules If a double inside candle forms, the last inside candle must be within the proceeding inside candles high low price range. Generally inside candles that form after an extremely large proceeding candle are discounted Inside candles work better when they are small in range. The inside candle is a very common pattern, in fact it is most probably the most common candlestick pattern that occurs on the charts This is why many traders have trouble trading them, because they don t know how to filter the good from the bad. Inside candle breakout trading is not something I recommend for beginner traders it s something you should pick up as you build screen time If you re going to trade inside candles, stick with the ones that form on higher time frames I am talking 12 hour charts and above. Inside candles form due to a period of indecision, when the market couldn t build any momentum to breakout higher or lower from the previous candle s range Sometimes cascading inside candles can form, where you get a stack of inside candle within inside candle. Think of this as like pressure building in a teapot, there is likely going to be an explosion The longest chain you will probably come across is a stack of 3 inside candles in a row Double and triple inside candle stacks are a much more reliable breakout catalysts than the single inside candle. Inside candles form all the time, but they aren t all good candidates for breakout trades Newbie, and more experienced traders find it hard to trade inside candles because they have trouble filtering the good opportunities from the bad Inside candle breakouts are for the veteran price action trader who has good chart reading skills. Doji Candles. Doji candles have a small body. The cand le body is centered within the candle range. Wicks protruding out both ends of the body. A doji candle can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but ultimately is a visual representation of an indecision period in the market. They are sometimes also called Spinning top, dragon fly, morning star or evening star. Doji candles are another form of breakout catalyst, but we don t see them form as often Generally the same principles apply to the Doji as they do to the inside candle, big ones are discounted. Trading dojis takes a bit of screen time to develop confidence Generally the best dojis form around major levels in the market, where they can double as a reversal signal. Doji candles are a well-known pattern, but are tricky to filter the good from the bad Doji candles are reflective of a period of indecision and can work as breakout catalyst, or under the right conditions can be a good reversal signal. Different Mediums of Price Action. There is more charting formats out there than just classi c candlestick charts though that is what most people are familiar with There are other mediums for delivering price data can be used by technical analysts to get different perspectives on the market. These other mediums may allow you to see opportunities that normally would have eluded you with your normal candlestick chart. This is an area I am researching heavily at the moment, but the preliminary findings look promising. So, lets looks at the classic candlestick charts and some compare them against some of the other formats available. Candlestick Charts. Most traders believe New York close charts are the only charts you should be looking at But the reality is, New York close charts only provide a reference point to base your analysis on. I am not saying New York close charts are bad, they are excellent and I use them every day But, have you considered using the London open time as a reference point for your cross analysis. Let s compare a New York close chart and a London Open chart. With t he London open charts, we are able to see a strong sell signal that was otherwise not as obvious on the New York Close chart. But this is no reason to discount NYC charts either, as we can see a nice big sell signal there which was not as obvious on the London Open chart. Here is a New York Open chart thrown in for good measure. There isn t anything obvious screaming out here, but this is just to show now with this one pair, we can have 3 different time perspectives which dramatically changes the chart. This is like a panning for gold approach where you look through different time slots and see if anything jumps out at you. You could really shift the charts 23 different ways, as you could generate a chart with every single GMT hour, but I think it s important to keep things simple and stick to the main event times like New York close, London open and the New York open if you really wanted to. This really opens up the door to some unique analysis for price action traders. It is possible to get different variations of candlestick charts by manipulating the open close times of the candles By shifting the time perspective to other key times in the market, like the London open, we can see patterns that are not visible on our standard charts. Renko Charts. Have you ever seen a Renko chart They look absolutely beautiful just one glance at them will make you want to get more involved with them. They are the result of removing time out of the equation Renko candlesticks instead form from price movement exclusively. Here is the same chart I ve been using as an example in Renko format. This is a 50 pip Renko chart, meaning the body of each Renko candle is exactly 50 pips no more no less. Every time the market moves 50 pips, a new candle sometimes called brick will form, regardless of how long the market takes to do so. It could take 5 mins, 5 hours, or 5 days to create a new Renko candle, it s purely a momentum based trigger. Renko charts are great in the way they help eliminate noise, and r eally let you peer into the core movements of the market. During strong trends, Renko charts paint a pretty clear picture. It just paints a really clear picture to what s going on with the market and can make chart analysis very pleasant Things like finding market structure, and locating important support and resistance levels start to become very easy. Obviously, you have the freedom to alter the Renko chart size to whatever you like, you could have 10, 25, 200 pip Renko charts The same principle applies as candlestick charts, if you start going too low then the Renko chart can become too noisy and lose its touch. Renko charts are a candlestick that doesn t care about time, and only reacts to price movement It is a unique form of price action trading that really allows you to look beyond the noise and peer into the market with extra clarity. Heiken Ashi Charts. This is a chart format that is talked about only in smaller circles, but I ve known about them for many years The easiest way for m e to describe a Heiken Ashi chart is this, it s basically what you get when apply averaging math to a candlestick. A new candle is created based off of averaging formulas applied to the previous candle So in laymen s terms, a Heiken Ashi candle is a unique averaged perspective of the previous candle. So what you get is this chained average effect in the candles that helps smooth out the chart noise, eliminating short term vibrations in the market. The Heiken Ashi average math does make the candles look unconventional To understand what these charts are trying to communicate, the trick is to compare the body size to the wick. If the body size is large, and the wick is small this indicates strength in the price movement If the body is bullish, then you ve got strong bullish pressure, and a bearish body indicates strong bearish pressure. If the body is small, and the wick is large this can indicate the opposing side is putting up a fight and momentum is slowing down As a trend comes to an end, you will generally see the bodies get smaller and the wicks get larger. If you see Heiken Ashi candles with wicks protruding out both ends of the body this communicates indecision Here is the same chart example from the candlestick and Renko sections above, put into Heiken Ashi format. The Hieken Ashi candlestick is a unique form of charting invented by the Japanese, which they called a better candlestick The average function creates a very different perspective of the market which helps filter through the trend pressure, directional changes and periods of indecision more clearly. My MT4 Chart Generator. If you are really into price action trading and looking to study, or currently use any of the alternative charts formats that I have listed above, then I would just like to take a moment to introduce my chart generator panel for MT4.The problem with your standard MT4 is that is doesn t allow for these custom chart types There are indicators and other tools out there that allow you to crea te these charts in MT4, but the operation of them can get quite messy and actually be very buggy at times. My chart generator allows you create all the charts discussed above, in as many different ways and on as many different charts as you like all managed from the one panel. You can see with the panel, I have a lot of control with the kinds of charts I can create In this setup I ve created.8h EURCAD New York Close Heiken Ashi chart.8h AUDUSD London Open candlestick chart.8h USDCAD New York Open candlestick chart.50 pip EURJPY Renko Chart.25 pip EURJPY Renko Chart.12h GBPUSD Heiken Ashi London open chart.8H AUDJPY candlestick chart applied to 2 GMT. Does Price Action Trading Really Work. The burning question with many traders is does it really work Should you devote your time into be coming a master with price action trading. It s important to understand that it is is not a system itself, but a methodology, or way to perform technical analysis on the financial markets. I can say hands down that a system which is built upon pure charts will definitely work if you devote the time and energy into your understanding of the charts. That includes going back through your chart history, and understanding how the markets behaved in the past so you can forecast the future with more confidence. I believe the reason traders fail with these strategies, or any trading system for that matter is due to psychological reasons Even the humble moving average cross over system can turn profits sometimes, but requires a lot of discipline and patience. These two qualities need to be present in any trader to make any system work, they are an essential part of any successful trading venture This kind of naked trading is easy, simple and logical but if you don t have the rock solid mindset to tr ade without emotions, then you will be the cause of your own demise. I hope this guide has been truly inspirational for you, and motivated you to clean your charts up and start trading with naked candles. If the strategies discussed here today interested you it s only the tip of the ice berg If you want to continue further and start trading like this, check out our Price Action Trading Protocol Forex course, or my custom MT4 tools in my private war room for traders. Travers Harris April 8, 2016.I have started reading this article but I am a long way from finished I signed up with IQ options as they were the cheapest with a 20 deposit and I am an old man without an income I deposited more a bit later as I lost the 20 dollars and lost the rest of my deposits as well So I opened a free account with IQ and used the information provided by the Forex Guy and won 7 out of 8 times that s an 87 5 strike rate, the best I have done And I think why I lost the one time because I did something wrong. I am going to really study all the information provided as it is brilliant Thanks Dale. enke April 9, 2016.Setups, Price Action Context. If you think this article is going to be about learning a price action setup, you re wrong, but it will be about something more powerful For your future, for your learning process, and for your sanity, keep reading this article if you are not consistently profitable. Of all my articles, the most popular and commented ones are always on some specific setup or system. Because almost all of you have been h unting for the one system that edge which will turn your trading around That edge which will print money into your account day after day, week after week without much effort You ve probably amassed dozens of patterns and systems, yet still aren t making money. If so, don t worry that was me 12 years ago. But I think it points to a problem for those hunting through forums, websites and videos looking for your pot of gold All of your focus and energy has been on finding a system or price action setup that makes money. Sure, everyone wants their own ATM machine who doesn t But what is also going on is you want the market de-mystified You want trading to be simple and easy, i e thinking three simple setups will solve all your trading problems and help you understand the market. Regardless, this underlies two things which will trip you up in trading 1 The fallacy three simple price action setups will consistently make you money if you have good money management.2 Being uncomfortable with uncert ainty. Today s article will be focused on the first point, and the next article will be focused on the latter. Three Simple Setups Really To begin, it is a complete fallacy that if you learn what a pin bar, inside bar and a fakeout system is good money management making money that you understand and can trade price action. How convenient that a market which has brought traders to its knees, crying, jumping out of windows after losing fortunes, that three simple setups and good money management plus a little psychology is all you need to be a profitable trader. If that was the case, why isn t everyone doing it. Why are banks spending thousands of dollars, and months, if not years on end, training their traders, when there is such a conveniently packaged solution available. My programmer was recently at a algo conference with some of the top hedge funds He told me they are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars re-programming their algos every 12-24 months to keep a competitive edge. Why wou ld they do this if they could just learn what a pin bar was, inside bar and fakeout setup is Wouldn t that be easier. Newbie traders want to hear the market can be simplified into three price action setups, that trading with the trend and good money management is all you need It perpetuates a dream which is actually a false reality. This is why I have always talked about learning to read the price action in real time that you cannot rely upon systems alone Yes, a pin bar can be a highly effective method for trading various price action situations But it always has to be taken in Context. Two Scenarios To demonstrate this point, lets take two scenarios.1 A bullish pin bar forms after a long trending move This trending move ended with an exhaustive candle which then proceeded to form a double bottom off a key support level The pin bar closed bullish and formed on the 2nd bottom also creating a 3 pip breakout below the lows Am I going to buy that pin bar if I get a corrective pullback toward s the double bottom. I see that I m going to buy that The pin bar was a very good setup and price action cue for me But remember, pin bars can be both cause and the result of order flow. However, we have the other pin bar scenario.2 Price action has dropped 1000pips in the last two days Then in the middle of the Tokyo session forms a tiny pin bar on the 4hr time frame that closes bearish Am I going to buy that pin bar expecting the price to reverse NO. You have to understand, there is nothing wrong with the pin bar by itself It can be a highly effective signal, or it can lead to losses. What is the difference. It s not money management, or trading with the trend, or your psychology. It s the context with which it forms But to understand these differences, you have to learn to read price action in real time, and what it has done in the past around those levels That is the context you have to learn how to read. Passive vs Active Learning To be sitting there passively, waiting for days on end fo r your three simple price action setups is trading in passive mode and flat out boring And boredom will actually interfere with your learning process. If you can only find one setup a week, you re not looking hard enough because there are plenty. There is no active learning and active learning is what you need In active learning, you are engaging your resources, your current level of knowledge and applying it In passive learning you are not engaging any of your knowledge and seeing how it works in real time, learning from the feedback loop called the markets. If you are sitting on the sidelines for days on end, just waiting for your three simple setups, you re wasting your time You could be learning, trying, studying, and participating in the market which is what facilitates learning. I didn t just learn what an inside bar was and then trade it based on what it should do I spent dozens of hours studying 1000 s of inside bars and pin bars, to see what was different between them all, and how did price action form after each unique one. I have pages of notes about pin bars how each one forms, its size in relation to the prior bar, where it forms in relation to the prior bar, in the trend, near the 20ema, in relation to the surrounding price action, support resistance levels, etc, etc, etc. I don t just trade pin bars like a robot I trade them in context, and that is what gives me an edge, to be able to read the price action in real time, and what the market has done around current levels. A Student One of my students wrote just yesterday on this subject. I am at that point where I know I want to be a full time trader I absolutely believe that the strategies, models and methods we are taught in this course can lead to profitability, because I m using them everyday and they lead to good profitable trades. However, I have moved away from just seeing a pin bar or some other signal and just pulling the trigger, because I have moved toward understanding price action the way Chris tal ks about in his lessons, like he has done on breakouts, the aussie price action, the USDX, etc. I believe that as traders we can trade these strategies and make some money, but we will not evolve as traders if we don t begin to read and understand the price action that is occurring around these different setups. When I read this, I was nothing but smiles as the light went on This student gets it, and gets what I have been teaching He understands that pin bars inside bars and all the other methods have a purpose but they are not the road and vehicle towards profitable trading. Although they are highly informative about what the order flow is behind the price action, he understands they are both cause and result This means he understands sometimes they are the cause of order flow, and other times, they are the result of order flow They are not simply just one or the other. It also means he is spending his time learning to read the price action in real time, to understand what kinds of order flow would create such price action He is not passively waiting for setups, and then pulling the trigger like an automaton He understands that these setups have to be taken in context. In Summary Don t waste your days on end in waiting mode for your simple three setups to occur Understand three simple setups will not lead you to profitable trading, nor understanding price action If it did, everyone would be doing it and that is all they would be teaching at banks and hedge funds. Understand trading price action means learning to read price action in real time It means being an active and deliberate learner. Understand that price action setups are highly valuable tools but they have to be taken in context You have to learn to read what kind of order flow would create such price action, and how to trade this flow. I hope this helps and that it changes the way you look at price action and your learning process. Please make sure to leave your comment, like and share this post. Kind Regards, Chri s. Hi Chris, I will like to have more information on your price action course, please contact me Thank you for these bunch of articles they are all really helpfull. Reading PA is essential even if you have a setup Not every setup that presents itself is an automatic entry into the markets I am a student in the advanced price action course Chris has mentioned this concept in previous articles, you need a METHOD this will help you understand the context of the market, you need a MENTOR a mentor is someone who knows what you want to lean, and is achieving the success you desire, you need MASTERY this takes time This is not learn a setup in 2 weeks and bang your making money Mastery is a process that comes one way and only one way time, lots of time, lots of practice, lots of study but when you master the process your trading account will consistently grow and reflect your you are stuck in your trading journey, I recommend you read every article Chris has published, watch the videos, read th e forums where his students give feedback about the courses he offers and make a decision to invest in yourself and your trading knowledge. Guilty that s exactly what I was missing I spent hours, for years perfecting the ideal system without seeing the global price action, took few pips, a slap, more pips, more slaps then moved to perfecting another system and so on My friends call me the machine as I wanted a system to avoid any emotions, just Entry, Target, SL I m lucky that even after years I never wiped out my portfolio entirely thanks to adapted money management I don t know how long I could have done this, thinking I was going to be a pro trader with a so short view of the price s life I m ready Chris, thanks for opening my brain. Its understandable there is this fairytale going on there that all you need is the trend, key levels, and these three patterns to trade successfully That must be why banks pay thousands to train their traders, over years. Joking aside, most don t know how to read or see the price action context in real time and this is only exacerbated by focusing too much energy on the 1-2 bar patterns themselves. But glad you are understanding this now. Kind Regards, Chris.
